About Me

Educational History:

I graduated from Oklahoma Baptist Universtiy with a degree in Bachelor of Science and Education. I have also attended classes at SWOSU.

Professional Development:

I really enjoy learning. I like to challenge my students to become life long learners. I personally love to go to teacher institutes at historic places to enrich my own learning. I have been to the Colonial Williamsburg Institute for Teachers in Virginia, the George Washington Teacher Institute at Mount Vernon (twice), and I have also attended a workshop called World War 2 on the Homefront at Berkely University in California sponsored by National Endowment for the Humanities. These experiences have revolutionized the way I teach.

I am also very grateful to an organization called Fund for Teachers in connection with the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. Through FFT I have received three grants to pursue learning on my own. In 2009 I was able to travel to Hawaii to study the features of a volcanic island and I had the opportunity to meet with a geologist at Volcanoes National Park. In 2013 they provided funding for me to follow the Oregon Trail. I studied the natural features of this trail out west, met with a geologist at Yellowstone National Park, and went to various museums along the way, I was able to explore and photograph the ecosystems of Olympic National Park. In 2018 I was able to interview several people who experienced the internment of Japanese Americans during World War 2. This was an incredible experience to hear their personal perspectives. I then went to Oahu to interview witnesses of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and met with the Superintendent of Pearl Harbor. I was able to participate for a little bit in the archeological dig of Honouliuli which was an internment and prisoners of war camp in Hawaii.  It is sponsored through the National Park Service and will one day become a National Historical Site open to the public.

Personal Information:

When I am not at school I really love to spend time with my family, travel, and hike. I enjoy being active and my hobby is photography. I really enjoy taking photos of places where I travel and share with my students.
